OUR STORY

K9 Safety Consultants has been a trusted name in Michigan dog training since 1985. What began in Detroit as one man’s determination to understand canine behavior has grown into a training school known for structure, clarity, and real-world results.

K9 was founded by Flem Peacher V, and his path into dog training didn’t start with confidence — it started with fear. As a child, Flem experienced a traumatic incident with a neighborhood dog that left him shaken and unwilling to go near dogs at all. He didn’t just feel afraid — he felt changed by it.

When his father saw what that fear was doing to him, he didn’t minimize it. He gave him a simple truth that was hard to hear, but impossible to forget:

“If you want to overcome your fears, you’re going to have to face them.”

That wasn’t just advice — it was a challenge. And for Flem, it became a turning point. He began reintroducing himself to dogs slowly, cautiously, one interaction at a time.

Over time, fear turned into understanding. Understanding turned into respect.

And something unexpected happened: the kind of troubled dog that once shook him with fear became the dog he wanted to help the most. He wasn’t drawn to the easy dogs — he was drawn to the dogs everyone else labeled “too much”, “too unpredictable,” or “past help.” Flem learned that behind reactivity and uncertainty is usually confusion, fear, or a history that was never handled correctly. Those dogs didn’t need to be written off — they needed structure, clear communication, and someone willing to believe they could still learn.

That belief became the foundation of K9’s approach and the heart behind our specialty: No Dog Left Behind. K9 Safety Consultants is known for rehabilitating dogs that the rest of the world would have given up on — giving them a real chance at successful integration into a home. Regardless of what led a dog to become reactive or uncertain, our goal is to help them stabilize, learn, and thrive — so they can finally receive the safety, trust, and love that all dogs deserve.

Through decades of hands-on work, Flem developed what many know today as the K9 Safety Method: a practical training approach built on communication, consistency, and accountability — designed to help owners lead with clarity and help dogs succeed in real life.

While Flem Peacher V and his wife have since passed, their legacy lives on through the community they built and the work they started. Today, Flem Peacher VI carries that legacy forward as the owner and lead trainer — continuing the K9 tradition while keeping training modern, effective, and focused on what matters most: safe dogs, confident owners, and results that hold up outside the classroom.

Whether you’re working through basic obedience, behavior challenges, or reliability around distractions, we’re here to help you and your dog experience what K9 is known for — clear guidance, high standards, and a better relationship built on trust.
